It is not uncommon to lose track of why you wanted to lose weight in the first place. It may have been easy to start the process, but it can get discouraging quickly or something else in your life may come up that seems more important. How can you gain inspiration from more motivated people around you? How do people manage to succeed and maintain their success in weight loss efforts?
Setting goals and understanding your motivations will help you stick to your routine. Do you want to drop a large amount of weight, or are you just looking to slim down? Is increasing your standard level of energy a goal in your exercise routine? What is it that you wish to accomplish?
Stay on top of all of your progress. Only record your weight one time per week. It can make you anxious if you weight yourself too much. Write down everything you eat and the number of calories each food item or drink contains. Make sure you write down little stuff, like drinks and snacks, too. This can sometimes keep you from making bad decisions when choosing what you are going to eat and drink.
The worst thing you can do is make meal decisions when you are hungry. So that you do not fall into this trap, you should always decide in advance what you will eat at each meal and always have access to healthful snack food. Instead of dining out, pack a lunch from home. This will give you more control over what you consume and will have the added benefit of saving you money.
Being able to balance healthy eating and exercise is the key to permanent weight loss. It is important that you exercise three times a week or more. If you cannot commit to exercising, then pick an activity that you can stick with for the long term. Ask your friends to schedule a weekly walk or two with you. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! If you enjoy dancing you should take a class and learn a new routine.
Even though most people have heard this, many don’t do it. Have a cleaning party – invite your friends over to help you get rid of the junk food in your fridge and pantry by taking it home with them. When the junk food is not available and readily at hand, you will not be able to just grab some when you are tempted. Be sure to fill the void with healthful choices such as yogurt, fruits & veggies, nuts, whole grains, and other nourishing foods. Remember, if you do not have the choice to eat unhealthy foods then you cannot eat them.
A great support network can go a long way in helping you to stay focused on your weight loss plan. Have your friends give you support and encouragement. Your friends can give you a much-needed lift when your are out of motivation. Your buddies will be able to get you moving when you would much rather sit at home on the couch. Besides, you would do your best for them too!
